Default Numeric Heading for TOC using MS Word 2007

I longed for those days when MS Word was easy to use whenever I need
to create an auto-update numeric index TOC.

Back then when the grass was green -- in Office 2000, I just apply the
heading 1, 2, 3 ... style to my headers and MS Word automatically
generates a and increments the numeric indices's for my headers and
put them in the TOC.

Now, using Office 2007, I figure I can do the same and apply heading
1, 2, 3 ... style to my headers but the MS God is not always too
kind. MS Word '07 won't generate or increment the numeric indices's
for my headers, nor would the SW put them (in order) in the TOC.

As you can see, heading 2 style does not automatically increment and
so on. MS put out a fine tutorial video on the internet but they
neglected to use numeric headers that engineers use in our documents.
Perhaps I just don't know how to setup and use this feature in MS
Office 2007. Please help me!

You can quickly create a multilevel list of headings by choosing the
"1 Heading 1 1.1 Heading 2 1.1.1 Heading 3" format found at Home tab |
Multilevel List (under the "List Library" heading).

If you later want to edit that multilevel list, as well as most lists
created in older versions of Word, place the insertion point in the first
top-level paragraph (in the first Heading 1 paragraph in the case of heading
numbering), and then click Home tab | Multilevel List | Define New
Multilevel List. You are presented with a dialog box similar to the
Customize Outline Numbered List dialog of Word 97-2003 (see
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numb...umbering.html).
