Default Word program closes when I try to set up mail merge with Outlook?

My Word program just closes when I pick outlook as my source for mail merge -
any one have this issue or know how to resolve it??

It's usually better to start with Outlook - select some contacts, then use
Outlook Tools|Mail Merge... Study the options in there carefully before
continuing. This uses a completely different method to get the data to Word
and is typically more reliable and flexible. Much as I'd like to be able to
do it the other way...
