This big white space is for you to explain details of your question, like
what version of Word and what you are trying to do and what happens instead. Watermarks are in the header or footer. You can have a different one for the
first page. Just go into the header/footer view and cut the watermark from your header. Then click on the page setup button on the toolbar to change the document to have different headers/footers on the first page. Close that dialog and paste your watermark back into the first page header. Take a look at: How to set up letterhead or some other document where you want one header on the first page and a different header on other pages. http://www.addbalance.com/word/headersfooters.htm Hope this helps, -- Charles Kenyon Word New User FAQ & Web Directory: http://addbalance.com/word Intermediate User's Guide to Microsoft Word (supplemented version of Microsoft's Legal Users' Guide) http://addbalance.com/usersguide See also the MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/ which is awesome! --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- This message is posted to a newsgroup. In order to do this, you will have to check "Different first page" on the
Layout tab of Page Setup so that you have a separate First Page Header. At that point, you will probably find that you have the opposite of what you want: a watermark on the second and subsequent pages (anchored to the Header) and none of the first page. View | Header and Footer, Show Next if necessary to get to the page 2 Header, Cut the watermark from that page (Ctrl+X), return to the First Page Header, and Paste it there (Ctrl+V). -- Suzanne S. I now have to carry on typing on the second page but do not want it as a background. What do I do so that it only appears on the first page. I have got a first page header which gives all company information. |

A watermark (even a full-page background) is nothing more than a graphic
anchored to the header paragraph. You can select that graphic and Cut and Paste it where you need it. Given that you have a letterhead on the first page, I would guess that you already have "Different first page" enabled. In that case, all that is required is to view the Header (on page 2), select the watermark, and press Delete. -- Suzanne S.
