Default 2007 compatibility pack for 2000

This doc (http://www.microsoft.com/office/prev...eoverview.mspx)
claims that Office 2000 will support Office XML. However, the current Beta 2
compatibility pack doesn't make mention of 2000 (only 2003 and XP). Is this
compatibility still in the works or has it been dropped from the release?

Have you installed it on a machine with Office 2000?
It shouldn't work the same way it works with Office XP and 2003. As
there is no awareness update for Office 2000, the compatibility pack
doesn't integrate nicely into Office 2000. However, the actual file
converters run without Office present.
I just tried executing the converters stand-alone, but wasn't
successful. Maybe this isn't quite working yet.

Default 2007 compatibility pack for 2000

Thanks for the help, Patrick. I haven't tried the compatibility pack yet.
I'm actually investing solutions for Word doc generation from a (shhh)
non-windows platform. I was hoping to get an authoritative response from
someone affiliated with the project. The Office XML promises to simplify
this problem, but not if it's at the expense of a large portion of our
customer base.

I think the authoritative response is still not available. Microsoft is
still working on the compatibility pack and hasn't even announced to its
beta testers (I am one of them) what exactly the final requirements for
the compatibility pack will be. I can tell you though that I seriously
doubt there will be any direct integration into Office 2000 (which is
provided by the awareness update for XP and 2003) as Office 2000 is no
longer supported by MS.

Default 2007 compatibility pack for 2000

Hi

I have been running office 2003 for some time and downloaded office 2007
beta and installed it. There were no conflicts at all. I then downloaded the
compatibility pack for office 2003. I then had unresolvable problems with all
office 2003 and 2007 applications. I was unable to open 2007 Excel Word and
PowerPoint files and any attempt to open any office 2003 file by clicking on
the file icon caused the relevant 2007 application to attempt to open. The
2007 application always came up with the message indicating that the program
was not configured correctly and then closed down. Attempting to open the
file with 2003 - the application in which the file was creatd - caused errors
idicating that there were files missing from the application.

The upshot of all this was that I had to uninstal 2003 and 2007 and then
reinstal 2003 and 2007 (having to pay the £1.20 for the privilidge!

I now cannot open Excel Word PowerPoint 2007 files by simply clicking on
them But I can at least use all 2003 aplications but have to open the
application before opening files - unless the file was created on 2003 and
has never been run on 2007.

I like to think that these problems will be resolved with the next version -
but I am not holding my breath!

Peter

Default 2007 compatibility pack for 2000

Did you install B2TR for 2007? If yes, look on my B2TR issues page under
"File not Found". It sounds like you might run into a NAV-related issue.
When did you install the compatibility pack? If you downloaded it on or
after September 14, then you downloaded the B2TR version of it. Once you
have any B2TR application (incl. the compatibility pack) on your
computer, all Office 2007 B2 applications start acting up. So this might
be what you ran into...
