Does anyone know what version of MLA is being used in Word? The newest
version has been released and I'd like to be sure it's included.

The version that is included with Word 2007 is the one that was in force
when Word 2007 was released. So no, it's not following the guidelines of the
April 2009 version of MLA.

There also have not been any rumors that the style currently available will
ever be updated to the new version.

Something important I forgot to mention in my original reply.

As the styles are 'open' and anyone can develop new ones, you should write
to MLA and ask them to provide an implementation of their new style. They
are probably going to ignore your request, but if thousands of people who
are forced to follow MLA guidelines are mailing them to ask for such a
style, they might actually implement one.

So help yourself and others by writing an email to MLA.
