Default Deleting text within a document

I use Mac version of Word and something has happened to the configuration, so
that when I select a section of text with my mouse or keyboard, (say a
sentence with in a paragraph), and hit the 'delete' key it does not delete
the text. The the cursor just goes to the beginning of the section I selected
and the highlighting dissapears.

Help this is VERY frustrating when editing long documents! I have searched
for about two hours looking for a solution with no awnser!

Thanks for the reply. I use the Mac version so this is not listed in the path
you provided. I looked in other menus but since I do not know what are the
"items that refer to WordPerfect", I could not figure it out.

I use Word X for Mac.

Thanks again!

Found it! Word Preferences Edit Typing replaces selection.

Thanks for the reply, case closed!
