Default Help! Cannot open linked Excel file in protected document.

I have a Word 2003 document with form fields for our clients to tab through.
In a table at the end, I've pasted an Excel object so that they can access a
necessary spreadsheet. When I lock the document so that the user can tab
through the document, they cannot access the Excel spreadsheet. Is there a
way that I can protect the document, allow our clients to tab through the
fields, and also access the spreadsheet? Thanks for your assistance...
