Default Template/Add-ins

I am creating a macro. Earlier I was advised that the best way to save it is
to first create a template make it a Add-In and then save the macros there.
Can someome walk me through this process.

The first step is to open Windows Explorer, and select Tools Folder
Options View. Click the option "Show hidden files and folders" and
uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types". You're going to be
dealing with hidden folders and with file extensions, so you need to
be able to see both.

Start Word with a blank document. Click Tools Options File
Locations. Double-click the Startup item in the list. The Modify
Location dialog opens. Open the "Look in" dropdown and make a note (on
paper -- there's no way to copy this to the clipboard -- dumb!!) of
the path from C:\ down to the Startup folder. It will probably be
C:\Documents and Settings\your name\Application
Data\Microsoft\Word\Startup.

Cancel the Modify Location dialog; you want to find the location but
not change it. Also close the Options dialog.

Click File Save. Because this is a new document, the Save As dialog
opens. In the dialog, change the "Save as type" dropdown to "Document
Template (*.dot)". Give it a name in the "File name" box. Then open
the "Save in" dropdown and navigate to the Startup folder according to
the path you wrote down. When that folder is selected, click OK. You
now have a template in the Startup folder, which is the definition of
an add-in (also called a global template).

More about regular and global templates is at
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/Custom...latesStore.htm.

Now you can save the macro in this template -- see
http://www.gmayor.com/installing_macro.htm for instructions. You'll
have to shut down and restart Word (or use the Tools Templates and
Add-Ins dialog) to load the add-in and make the macro available.
