Default Word 2003 program is slow when opening or starting up

this happened when I tried to pdf a word document. Word and pdf processing
stalled, I restarted the computer and ever since Word is slow when starting
up. prior to this pdf incident, I opened an attachment from an e-mail - it
was in a foreign language and it opened itn Word. Could either one of these
2 transactions be related to the slowing of Word when starting it up?

hope to get help.
