Default Saving *.dotx template files

In Word 2007, I want to save a file as a template and then use it. Two
questions--Word 2003 used to save these temlate files in a specific place.
Where does Word 2007 save them? After you save them, how do you use them?
Word 2003 had them show up in a special tab when you went to use a template.
I cannot find my own templates anywhere when i click the Office Button, New.
Thanks for all help.

You're correct that the behavior changed with 2007. When you save a template, it
goes into whatever folder is selected in the Save As dialog (by default, the one
selected as the Documents folder). You should see a "Trusted Templates" button
at the top of the Places Bar on the left side of the document, and you should
click that before saving the template. (No, I don't understand the reason for
this change. I asked once, and the answer I got didn't make any sense to me.)

When you're creating a new document, if you click Office button New and then
choose "My templates" from the list on the left, you'll get the same dialog that
was in 2003. Of course, this shows only templates in the Templates folder, so
you have to save them there initially or move them later. If you'd rather go
directly to that dialog, customize the Quick Access Toolbar to add (from the
category "Commands Not In the Ribbon") the button for "New Document or
Template".

Thanks, Jay! The path to the templates is
C:\Users\Arlene\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Template s on my computer. What was
Bill thinking on this one. :-)
