Word 2007 on 64bit Vista Hang on startup
Vista Ultimate 64bit, Word 2007 (cannot find about box but i think it is 32
bit Word) 2.5 gighz 64 bit CPU 2.5 gig RAM 4 gig ReadyBoost This is a very fast machine, Visual Studio 2005 just pops up as an example. 1 - I have cut and pasted many things into a document. 2 - Now the document hangs for about 20 seconds when trying to load the document. 3 - I have cut the document into 11 documents, about 50k each. 4 - The documents have internal links, the ones that came with, EX: MSDN HTML article. 5 - Now each of the 50k documents take the same 20 seconds to load. 6 - It appears that there is network activity, based on the system bar at bottom of the Vista desktop 7 - If i delete all of the content with the links it launches fast again. Remember each of these 11 documents all do the same thing, and each of them have different types of content within them. Ex: tables, or links, or just general formatted text. Question: (1) - What could be causing this to hang this way. Is Word verifying all of the links or something. It hangs like when the printer is off-line. (2) - Are there any tools that can determine what steps Word is doing during startup, sort of a trace or debugging steps, etc? -- Thank you Mike Hammerfish |

Word 2007 on 64bit Vista Hang on startup
It is probably updating the links - check Word Options Advanced General
or it could be looking for an attached template that is not where it was originally or it could be a virus checker add-in (Norton AV's office plug-in is notorious for such hangups). -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Mike Hammerfish wrote: Vista Ultimate 64bit, Word 2007 (cannot find about box but i think it is 32 bit Word) 2.5 gighz 64 bit CPU 2.5 gig RAM 4 gig ReadyBoost This is a very fast machine, Visual Studio 2005 just pops up as an example.
