Default Somethings wrong with my delete function in word. How do I fix it

When I try deleting a block of text in Word it only deletes the first word of
the block. When I try deleting a word using the delete key (putting the
cursor in front of the word) it deletes the entire word. How do I change
this back to the default or normal delete function?

Welcome to the world of Word Perfect as seen through the eyes of Microsoft!

Tools = Options = General

Uncheck both options that have Word Perfect in their descriptions.
