Default Word 2007 won't start on Vista64

Word 2007 has been running OK on Vista 64 since installed but recently fails
to open with the following message:

C:\Porogram Files (x68)\Microsoft Office\Office12\WINWORD.EXE

The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows
you're running. Check your computer system information to see whether you
need x32 (32 bit) or x64 (64 bit) version of programme, and then contact
software publisher.

I am at a loss and suspect that a file has somehow been overwritten by the
32bit version or somehow corrupted, in which case where do I look to find out
and how do I rectify?
