Default how do I delete an unwanted page break that I can't click on?word

I have not manually inserted page breaks in my document but many page breaks
have now appeared where they shouldn't be. That is, there appears to page
breaks dividing my document randomly throughout. I have checked everything I
can think of (i.e. in format page breaks) and can't click on the dotted line
to delete it. Can anyone help?

Check the formatting of the paragraph following the break. On the Line and
Page Breaks tab of Format | Paragraph, make sure that "Page break before" is
not checked.

Thanks Suzanne, I actually worked out, from another thread, that it was a
footnote problem and that this was forcing page breaks through the document.
I had to reset the footnote separators. Thank you for your resonse
