Default Arrow key behavior in Tables 2010 v 2013

I am using VBA to automate movement through a table with merged cells. In 2013 and 2010 the arrow keys behave differently.

In the attachment put the pointer in the blue cell and move right twice.
In 2013 the pointer moves onto the EndOfRow mark and then onto the row below. In 2010 the pointer moves onto the EndOfRow mark and then back to the start of the same row.

If anyone can tell me why or direct me to any resources that explain how Word navigates through tables I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

Tom
