MS Word should support speech dictation mode
MS Word should support a feature which allows authors to enter a mode in
which the user can simply dictate to the computer with a microphone; which allows the speech recognition software to record in digital text what the author is saying. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. Hi Stephen,
Windows Xp already has this functionality. It can be used by Office 2002(Xp)/2003. There are a set of services that appear to be included under the umbrella name of "Text Services and Input Languages". These services include: Speech Recognition Text to Speech Handwriting Recognition Input Method Editor(s) (Convert keystrokes to Asian language Symbols/Characters) The interface is the Language bar, which is sensitive to the ability of the active Program Window to utilise the services. The Services are available to programs, including programs OTHER than Office, that support language recognition. In Control Panel there may be an Applet for "Speech" (in Xp Pro - don't know about Xp Home) when these components are installed. It can also be accessed from: "Regional and Language Options"|"Languages (Tab)"|"Details (button)". Right-click the (Windows) Task bar, point to "Toolbars", then click "Language bar". Then right-click the Language Bar (it will be on the Task bar) and choose "Restore the Language bar" - you may now place it anywhere convenient on the screen. See Windows Help and Support - Search for "Speech recognition" - See article "Speech recognition overview" -- Regards, Pat Garard Melbourne, Australia _______________________ "Stephen H" wrote in message ...
