Suddenly the "rename" function for files and folders is gone. If I right
click on a folder all of the options appear to be there except "rename". In
the left window under file and folder tasks "rename" is now missing. What
happened and how do I fix it? I have installed all Microsoft updates and
service packs and that did not fix the problem.

This is a Windows issue - what happens if you press F2 instead? That should
allow you to rename the selected item.
