Word2007 bug: won't place picture correctly
I am preparing a book.
It has Multiple pages: two on a landscape 8 1/2 x 11 sheet. A picture on the right side, page two, prints on the left side, page one. Try it. Page Setup: "landscape" Multiple pages: "2 pages per sheet" Hit enough lines (Enter) to make the second page appear. Insert a picture on the right hand, page two. Print review is ok. Print it. It will print on the left side, page one. I've tried everything, including wrapping the picture in text; setting page breaks and section breaks. If I cannot solve this, Word2007 is useless to me. Word2007 bug: won't place picture correctly
Well, first of all, page 1 should be on the right side, not the left (page 2
is on the left, on the back of page 1). Second, an easier way to get a second page is to insert a page break (Ctrl+Enter). Instead of using "2 pages per sheet," have you tried using "Book fold"? -- Suzanne S. Word2007 bug: won't place picture correctly
I don't have Word 2007, and I have heard that there are problems with
placement of wrapped graphics in that version, but that doesn't change the fact that if you're encountering the same problems with "2 pages per sheet" that you did with "Book fold," then you might as well at least be trying to solve them with "Book fold" instead of using a less satisfactory approach. -- Suzanne S. Word2007 bug: won't place picture correctly
Jay has confirmed the bug (something I cannot do since I don't have Word
2007 installed); as I said, it has been reported previously. FWIW, if you're preparing a *booklet," see http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting...etPrinting.htm. The technique for Word 97 will, I suspect still work in Word 2007 (albeit admittedly more work). If you're preparing a *book* (for self-publishing), then the printer will almost certainly want each page on a separate sheet (even if they're half-sheet sized). If you're preparing a *manuscript* (to be sent to a publisher), then layout is not your responsibility. -- Suzanne S. I send a finished manuscript to the printer. Nowadays it will be in Postscript or Acrobat (remarkable how Postscript still lives). Word is sometimes accepted, reluctantly and from the Mac. I publish books, not booklets. No printer I've contacted recently will accept "separate sheets." Camera-ready is dead, or should be -- how well I remember it ! Word2007 bug: won't place picture correctly
Side note:
Since your son sees the same thing on his Mac in Word X, one wonders whether there may not be a set-up problem, as well as a Word 2007 bug. Different Approach: Since you have access to a Mac, and your printers accept PDFs, then the booklet creating programs for OS X might be of use to you. Basically, you print a regular Word document to PDF, and then the booklet program takes the PDF, shrinks the pages, reshuffles the pages as necessary, etc, dividing a single complex process into two simpler steps. I think CheapImpostor even automatically does signatures for longer books. For more information and links to the possible programs, see he http://word.mvps.org/Mac/BookletsFold.html It's not recently updated, but it will put you on the right path if this method sounds less troublesome than what you are currently doing. I believe Word 2007 now prints to PDF? (although you might have to download something from MS. Then send just the PDF to your son's Mac and never launch MacWord at all) With mass-market PDF creation, perhaps there are/will be similar programs on the Windows side--even though WinWord has BookFold and MacWord doesn't, I get the impression that BookFold is not entirely reliable, so developers may see a gap in the market. There may already be an Acrobat extension out there to reshuffle PDF pages, perhaps. PS. I'm having a very hard time wrapping my head around how you are going to publish a book where the master copy was printed 2 pages per sheet. All I can picture is some big paper cutters and some laborious reshuffling, and that seems unrealistic. I hate following up such a non-constructive conversation, but I am a publisher. It is very easy to assemble the model -- no cutting or pasting. The cover likewise, on glossy paper. If I add glue to the edge the result is very much a book. The model in hand is a great aid to designing and the growing book is very motivating. The one-page-per-sheet can easily be achieved, I'm sure. Word 2007 can do anything, even crash. Book example, recently pdf'd: http://masonc.home.netcom.com/quimby/quimby.pdf I've taken this book out of print but it sells (Ebay, Amazon etc.) for a good price. Maybe someone knows more. It's for the Mac, and Mac OS X is built on a Unix base. That info is buried down at the bottom right of the site homepage. I had mentioned it before, as part of a different approach that Mason might take to avoid dealing with Word's BookFold. It is a nice program, from the demo I tried a while back, and has a *really* good Help file. Sadly, it does more than most people need and there are free alternatives out there, so I think it's not as commonly used as it deserves to be. The availability of programs like this means Mac users don't feel the absence of BookFold in MacWord at all, plus once it's installed, it works for any program that can print. Daiya |

Word2007 bug: won't place picture correctly
A PS: Mason, on your previous post--this fix worked to fix a different
problem-- "What the heck ! I saved it as a Word97-2003, closed and reloaded it and it still shows two page 2's in Print Preview but prints correctly." Did you try that on this problem? Page Setup: "landscape" Multiple pages: "2 pages per sheet" Hit enough lines (Enter) to make the second page appear. Insert a picture on the right hand, page two. Print review is ok. Print it. It will print on the left side, page one. I've tried everything, including wrapping the picture in text; setting page breaks and section breaks. If I cannot solve this, Word2007 is useless to me. HELP ! Mason C Just to close the record: bottom line: I returned Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 to Fry's. With some reluctance they fully credited my credit card. Mason C Yes, I did uninstall it. |
