Microsoft Exchange is an expensive corporate communications system that
would allow Word to communicate with the Outlook Express address book (which
is otherwise not available to Word directly). Word is only compatible with
MAPI complaint address books, which essentially means Outlook.

In order to mail merge from the Outlook Express address book, you will first
have to export the address book to a compatible file format (CSV) then use
that file as a data source.
