Default Word 2002/2003 Compatibility problems?

We have Users with Word 2002 and Word 2003. When 2002 users send documents by
E-Mail to Word 2003 users, they cannot open the attached documents. Word
prompts an error message stating that Word cannot read this document, it may
be corrupted. Try to open the document using the "Open and repair" function.
So, the user has to store the document locally and open it with "Open and
repair.." Then word prompts another window "Show repairs" and lists two
errors like Internal Data Integrity Type 4. However, the source of the error
is not clearly marked and it is not traceable what is actually wrong with the
2002 document. Any hint would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

This may be attributable to increased security measures in Microsoft
products. It has never been a good plan to open Word documents directly from
e-mails. It increases the risk of virus transmission and frequently results
in lost changes as the files are created on a temporary basis. Saving to the
hard drive and opening from there is a better plan and users should be
encouraged to do that. Anecdotal evidence suggests that uncompressed Word
documents often incur minor corruptions when e-mailed and this is corrected
by zipping the files before transmission.
