Default Rotate a word document for better use of laptop screen

Printed pages are of course generally longer than they are wide. I'd like a
way to rotate word documents so that I can turn my laptop on its side and use
the full screen to read a bigger version of the document than the smaller
"full page" view than I can see with my laptop monitor in its typical
horizontal orientation.

It sounds like what you need is a Tablet PC, which does permit this type of
rotation, or a rotating monitor.

Suzanne,

While a Tablet PC or rotating monitor would certainly work, you are missing
the point of my request. I'm asking for a *software* feature to support
this. To ask Word customers to go out and buy more hardware to get this
benefit isn't a suitable solution. Many ordinary laptop users like me (BTW,
a dramatically larger demographic than Tablet PC owners) would be quite
appreciative.

Thanks,
Michael

This is a job for third-party software, and I suspect that such is
available. In fact, a Google search turns up a product called Pivot Pro that
will do what you ask. See
http://personalcomputing.portrait.co..._overview.html. I would
not hold my breath waiting for MS to incorporate this feature in Office.

But I am confused as to how this would be helpful on an ordinary laptop with
a fixed screen. If the display is rotated 90 degrees relative to the
keyboard, won't it be pretty much impossible to use? I assume you are
planning to use an external keyboard?
