Default How do I adjust my registry policy setting?

I've received an e-mail with a word document attached to it. When I go to
open it my computer says that the document is an older version of word and
can not be opened due to my Registry Policy Setting. I'm using Office 2003.
Can and how do I adjust my registry policy setting?
Thanks.

See "Information about certain file types that are blocked after you install
Office 2003 Service Pack 3" at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=938810
