Default how do I delete a footer in Word 2002?

In Word 2002 I am trying to completly delete footers, but have not had any
luck. Any suggestions?

If a document or template has ever contained a footer, it is not possible to
delete the empty paragraph. You may be able to get rid of it using Save As
or by copying all but the last paragraph of the document into a fresh
document. Or you can reduce the footer margin to 0".
