Word 2003 Templates Dialogue box...advise...
Hi
I have been trying to get more user friendly with Word 2003...any advise would be great...thanks...... At the moment when I open word It opens with a blank document....can I stop this? Question 1 I would rather when I click on the word Icon......the Template dialogue box open. I can then choose from my customised tabs what template I want to open. Question 2 I recorded four word template as macros. I configured them as keyboard shortcuts. CTRL1 , CTRL2, CTRL4, CTRL4 Does this choice of shortcuts interfere with any standard keyboard shortcuts within word or office....could I cause a problem using these above shortcuts?.....just wondering if I may have overlooked something! |

Hi Carol
Thanks for the link...nice link. The only thing is I can't spot the section that answers my questions within the site.... could you post a couple of shortcuts ... Thanks Dermot "Carol" wrote: See: http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/ -- Carol A. As to the shortcuts, Ctrl+1 is by default assigned to SpacePara1 (that is,
single spacing) and Ctrl+2 to double spacing. Ctrl+3 and Ctrl+4 are assigned to LockField and UnlockField respectively. If you won't be wanting to use those shortcuts for those functions, then there's no harm in reassigning them to your macros. For a different approach, you can create a desktop shortcut for a specific document template; double-clicking on it will create a document based on that template. Once Word is running, however, clicking on the New button will still create a new document based on Normal.dot; you can't get around that. A better approach, therefore, is to substitute a New... button using the FileNewDialog command, which opens the File | New dialog. Put your four templates on the General tab and train users to use that instead. If you want the File New dialog to open when you start Word, you can add the FileNewDialog command to an AutoExec macro, which runs on Word startup. Adding \n to the command line used to start Word will open it without a blank document. -- Suzanne S.
