Default sans serif font

I am having trouble printing documents written in MS Sans Serif,,,It seems to
print strange characters randomly over the page.

Any ideas why?

MS Sans Serif is a screen font; it will not print. Word is consequently
substituting some other font for printing. It would be better to change to
another (TrueType or PostScript) font to begin with.
