Default Merge dialog to update links

The main word document opens with the usual question about updating the links
to other files - yes or no. So far so good. I select yes but nothing
happens AND there is no error message. However, I can update each chart and
graph individually (F11, F9). This is a monthly report that we have been
using for some time and periodically (as in our recent corporate update to a
new server) I re-link each individual chart & graph. I think (but am not
certain) that this problem may have started after the conversion to microsoft
from novell.

Can someone help?
Many thanks as usual.

I suspect your version of Word may also have been updated and that you may
have been affected by the security-related changes described in the
following article:

How the behavior of the Word fields changes after you install the Word
update
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;330079

However, I can update each chart and
graph individually (F11, F9).

As a workaround, is it quicker/easier to select the whole document using
ctrl-A, then press F9?

Peter,
Thanks for the reply. The workaround is perfect.
Question - will modifying the FieldCalcSecurityLevel registry key to Level 0
affect anything else besides "Word reverts to the previous field behavior"?
as I may ask our IT guy to do that.
Thanks again.

I can't tell you for certain because changes sometimes do affect unexpected
parts of the software. I suppose the main point is that MS has tried to
protect you from certain possible security problems to do with fields - you
didn't have that protection before the upgrade and you won't have it now.

I think I'd warn the IT guy that you might want to change it back again
later :-)

Well, since I'm a major keyboard person, CtrlA+F9 will do the trick and seems
to be the safer route.
Thanks again for the prompt replies.
