One method would be to use a SEQ field inside an = field.

For the first number, just type 3.0. For each number thereafter, use the
following field:

{ = 3 + ({ seq num }/10) \# #.0 }

To create this:

Press Ctrl+F9; type: = 3 + (

Press Ctrl+F9 again; type: SEQ NUM; press F9

Type: /10) \# #.0

Select the entire field, and press F9 to update it.

Copy the field as many times as you'll need it, select all of the copies,
and press F9.

Explanation: A series of {SEQ NUM} fields produces a series of number, 1, 2,
3, 4, 5, etc. We divide that series by 10 to give you .1, .2, .3, .4, .5,
etc., then add that to 3 to give you what you want. The \# #.0 business is
number formatting that ensures 4.0 appears rather than a plain 4 when the
decimal portion is zero.

I hope this helps.

It may be a bit tedious to set up, but once you have your numbering,
properly attached to styles, you can create a template and re-use it
whenever needed. The alternative is Seq fields, as suggested by Herb.
The advantage of fields is that they provide complete control over
numbering, but re-using them won't be quite so easy. It is possible,
though: you can save fields as AutoText entries.
