Default "Invisible" shading (i.e., non-printable?) in table cells?

Don't know what this would be called but in a table that I have, I have
locked certain cells in certain columns that correspond to non-printable
areas of a label template. As the label template doesn't somehow signal
what is printable and what is not, I made the label sheet into a form and
locked the pertinent cells/columns. But to make it visually easier for the
user, wondered if there was a way to shade those cells on the screen but
that wouldn't print out on the labels themselves which, if they did, would
just mean a waste of printer ink.

Is there a way to do this? Tx.

Actually, in a form, you can elect to have the form fields shaded (and this
field shading doesn't print), but that would be the reverse of what you
want, since the form fields are the editable portion rather than the
protected portion, and if you choose "Print data only for forms," it is the
form field data that will be printed, not the protected portion.

Yes, that is understood.

But, then, what does your reply mean - that it can't be done? or were these
just musings on the built-in shading features of forms? g

Still hoping ...

I think I was suggesting that, if I correctly understood what you were
trying to do, it was unlikely to be easily done.
