G'Day again Yasser,
I don't know. Word 2007 is NOT a released product - I don't think deployment strategies have yet been considered - let alone firm! -- Regards, Pat Garard Melbourne, Australia _______________________ "Yasser" wrote in message ... set the default option to Save a document as .doc instead of .docx [Office 2007]
Hi Yasser,
You could probably do it by cloning a registry setting, but you may be interested in additional details on customizing Office 2007. (also adding the microsoft.public.office.setup newsgroup to this one) Deployment of Office 2007 uses a different approach than it has for Office 2000/XP/2003, but the customization tools are similar. For Office 2000-2003 you used the Office Custom Installation Wizard (CIW) to create an .MST file to hold custom settings used for initial setup and then the Office Custom Maintenance Wizard (CMW) to create a .CMW files for 'patching' or changing the settings after deployment. These tools have been discontinued. For Office 2007 the Office Customization Tool (OCT2007) is used as s the basic tool for making changes to both initial settings and to make basic changes in the selected feature set and changes. It creates Windows Installer Patch files (.MSP). It is built into the Setup.exe program and no additional download is needed to use it. From the Office 2007 Professional Edition download first extract the CD image from the download to a new folder on a network or local drive. This image is your 'Office Network Installation Point'. The O-NIP replaces the now discontinued Office Admin Point (Setup /A) from prior versions of Office. To extract the CD image from the download (and this works for corporate and individual copies of Office 2007 Professional Edition Beta 2), uUse Start=Run , and on a single line type in the following (using your own path and & file names in place of the example ones) "drive:\Step2PathOfDownload\downloadfilename.e xe" /extract:"Step3path" example: (assuming you saved from the Office preview site to a 'downloads' folder and, for your O-NIP you first create a new folder named Off2007ProB2CD1) the Start=Run line would look like this "c:\downloads\OPPLUS-EN.EXE" /extract:"C:\Off2007ProB2CD1" If the extraction is successful (you'll get a dialog box telling you it was after a few minutes). If you had a CD of Office 2007 you basically just copy it to a folder on a hard drive to create an O-NIP. Once you have your CD image in your O-NIP location take a look at the structure. You'll note that there are several folders that contain .MSI files. In Office 2007 products have no preset language (not even English) and things are deployed modularly. If you try to use just an .MSI file to deploy Office while it may appear to 'install' it won't be complete. Using the Office 2007 Setup.exe to do your installations is a key step. You can also copy, extract more than one Office 2007 product into your O-NIP structure and chain the installs using the Office 2007 Customization Tool (OCT2007) You'll note in the O-NIP/CD Image, that you have a folder named 'updates'. When you drop an .MSP into that folder and run setup, it is read as part of setup and those changes and customizations are applied. To use the OCT2007 tool first create a new folder (it can be in the O-NIP from the Root level to hold your customization files) You don't want to create them in the Updates folder unless you have only one customization for everyone. For example you can create a file named \.MSPs or \Customizations. After creating your folder use Start=Run and run Setup.exe /Admin usng the path to your O=NIP folder so you're using *that* Setup.exe g. If you have put more than one Office 2007 product family CD image in your O-NIP structure (i.e. Business Contact Manager, Visio, OneNote) then on the first screen you will be asked which 2007 product you're creating a customization patch file for. (You customize them separately, but can install them as a set). For more details on using the 2007 Customization tool and deployment use the help screens in the OCT (after the first couple of screens, where they're not yet enabled) and the Office 2007 Beta edition of the Office 2007 Resource Kit from http://officebeta.iponet.net/ork (note you must have either a 2007 product installed or the Active X control from Link #3 below installed to view the Beta ORK site). =========== "Yasser" wrote in message ...
