Default Using Word 2003 DOT templates in Word 2007 without changing to DOTM.Problems?

We have a very large set of custom Word templates (with extensive VBA
code, forms, data access, AutoText usage, interfaces with other doc
imaging applications) that currently reside in Office 2003 DOT files.
We are planning on switching over to Office 2007. We’ve tested the
current 2003 DOT files in Office 2007 and everything seems to work
fine without converting them to DOTMs.

The question is, are there any known issues with using DOTs under Word
2007?

From what I can see the user opens a new document based on a 2003 DOT
template. The new Word 2007 document is automatically put in
compatibility mode. When saved the document defaults to a DOCX and
compatibility mode is turned off. Close and reopen the DOCX and
compatibility mode is still off, yet the document is still attached to
a 2003 DOT. Are there any known issues with continued usage in this
manner?

Aaron
