Default Convert Text to Table with Tabs

I have a row of text with a number followed by a dash and then a title of a
document with a paragraph mark at the end. I am trying to make: Column 1 as
the number and Column 2 as the title. I have done a F&R to make the dash a
tab. I then selected the text and selected Table/Convert/Text to Table. In
the "Number of columns" section I chose "2". In the "Separate text at" I
chose "Tabs". When the table generates there is only one column and not two.
Can someone tell me why this is not working? Thanks.

To: Sharon,

From your description, it appears that you're doing everything correctly.

Have you double checked to see if the dash was actually converted to a tab
character? Click on the Show/Hide icon, the tab should look like an arrow -

It least when I try to reproduce your problem, if I don't have a tab
character and yet in the "Number of columns" section I chose "2" and in the
"Separate text at" I
chose "Tabs". It creates a table with only one column.

Actually, when I went back to the document and tried to do this table over,
it wouldn't work. I tried the above suggestion but it still wouldn't work.
Figured out that the items were hyperlinks and the convert function would not
work. When I removed the hyperlink, the table formatted perfectly.
