Default Word Folders Open Slowly When Not Connected to Network Drives

When I attempt to Open a document on different laptop
logical drive on the road clicking the "Look in" pull down
bar from Word sometimes it takes two minutes for the drive
list to be displayed. The first time I try to Open a
folder located on a laptop drive it opens very slowly.

I have network drives mapped on my laptop for my office
(6) and my hone (3). If I disconnect the mapped network
drives Word opens the drives and folders very quickly.
The problem appears to be related to the mapping of my
network drives when not connected to the network.. Is
there a way to keep the network mapping and keep the
speed. When I am at the office and have disconnected the
home network drives and the office network drives are
mapped Word the folders open very quickly.

I know that I can create batch files to map and disconnect
the network drives using desktop icons.

What others solutions do the savvy members of this forum
offer?

Thanks for all the help.

Jeremy
