Default Why are my Microsoft Word documents appearing as Wordpad files?

Hello. I primarily use Microsoft Word for all of my word processing. I always
save my documents as Word documents. For some unexplained reason, all of my
documents today appeared as Wordpad files ?!? I am still able to open these
documents as Word documents, but when I save new documents they appear as
Wordpad documents. I don't know why this happened and I would like to change
all of these files back to Wod files. Thanks.
