Default 25 item limit for drop down lists

is there a way to exceed the 25 item limit for a drop down list? Or is there
something else that could be used for a longer list?

There's no way to exceed the limit, but there are alternatives. This
article describes using a combo box in a userform, which isn't
limited:

You could instead use a combo box from the Control Toolbox directly in
the document:
