i try to type into word and it says at the bottem this modifaction is not
allowed because the selection is locked how do i unlock it and wat dose it
mean i can not type or change anything eg the lay out of the page the font
size th type of font.

Usually it means you have either a trial version that has expired (so you must
buy it or remove it) or a regular version that you haven't activated within the
required 50 uses.
