Default date format in form field

The date format in a Word form field is set to dd.MM.yy and number of
charecters is limited to 8. I have typed date as 03.09.06 as per format and
when I move to next field the date changes to 09.03.06. If I navigate back
and forth using tab key the date format toggles between dd.MM.yy and MM.dd.yy

Request suggestion to stop this toggling date format and fix it with
dd.MM.yy format
