Seeing a different amounts of pages in the same Word document
At work, I open a Word document and it is 41 pages long. My colleague
opens the same file from the same place on the network and they have 62 pages. Why could this be? It's nothing to wo with the way view we have of Word. The doument I open stops att Appendix 1 but the one my colleague opens goes on to appendix 3. |

Seeing a different amounts of pages in the same Word document
Hi Martin,
Such a large difference is almost certainly due to the use of hard page breaks and/or styles with 'page break before' characteristics, combined with the use of different printer drivers on the PCs concerned. To lay out a document, Word gets information from the printer driver as to what the printer can do and adjusts everything to suit. Apparently, the page breaks suit the designated pages for one PC/driver combo but not the other. -- Cheers macropod [MVP - Microsoft Word] wrote in message ... Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Both users are linked to the same networked printer. Regards, Martin macropod wrote: Hi Martin, Such a large difference is almost certainly due to the use of hard page breaks and/or styles with 'page break before' characteristics, combined with the use of different printer drivers on the PCs concerned. Am I right in thinking that when you look at the document, it's truncated at Appendix 1 whilst your colleague's machine shows the whole file? I'm just wanting to get it clear that it's not simply a layout issue with one machine spreading the same amount of text over a larger/smaller number of pages. -- PeterMcC If you feel that any of the above is incorrect, inappropriate or offensive in any way, please ignore it and accept my apologies. |

OK,
I suspect the issue may be with the use of hidden text. That is, Word on one PC is set to display hidden text, the other is not - and everything after Appendix 1 has been formatted as hidden text. You can toggle this via Tools|Options|Display and the printing of hidden text via Tools|Options|Print (both assuming you're using Word 97-2003 - for Word 2007 both the display and print checkboxes are under Word Options|Display). -- Cheers macropod [MVP - Microsoft Word] wrote in message ... Yes, that is right.
