Default "Browse the web" doesn't work in creating hyperlink.

In Microsoft Office Word 2007, an error occurs when trying to insert
Hyperlink and clicking on the Browse the Web icon; "An error occurred while
browsing files.

I have made sure MSIE is my default browser. I also tried this with new
documents and new attempts to create hyperlinks on both my desktop and on a
laptop also with Word 2007. Seems to me that having the Browse button there
means it is supposed to work!

I can manually copy and paste in the url, but it would be easier to be able
to use the Browse function.
Any suggestions would be helpful.
