Default Word formatting messed up?

Even though i have the margins set at 1 inch down from the top (the default
setting as long i have used word) the cursor is positioned right at the top
of the document. When click on print preview is shows the document text
actually starting one inch down from the top of the page, so it is printing
it in the right place, but now when i am actually working on a document. It
is annoying because the text from the page above appears jammed right down on
top of the text for the page below because word is not showing the inch
margins top and bottom. Like i said, when i actually print the document the
margins are correct, it just isn't showing it that way when typing. Help
