Default how do I specify a blank mergefield in an if...then?

I am trying to do a mail merge letter that will print one paragraph if the
Pfin Last Pay Date mergefield is blank else a different paragraph. Can
anyone help?

print this one"}

Field boundaries { } are entered with CTRL+F9.
