I want to close a word document with a new name. I'm getting a message that
says I can't because the xlm converter is on. What do I do. I'm getting to
really dislike this new computer.

For one thing you'll need to be much more descriptive & clarify what the
situation is. XLM is Excel Macro Language - are you sure it isn't XML?

What is the nature of the document, what do you mean by "close a word
document with a new name", what version of Word are you using????? You need
to provide as much information as possible.
