Default Maximum number of pages in a word document

Quick question...
what is the maximum number of pages allowed within a single word document?

I believe this to be 32,768, but am looking for confirmation.

thanks

Forgive me for asking what may appear to be a stupid question.

Who reads a document that's 32,000 pages long?

There's never been a limit to the number of pages in a Word doc,
because a page is kind of a virtual thing and can widely vary in
size/content. The size limts are more related to bytes or the capacity
of your own system's resources.

Sadly, finding info on the Limits of Word in Word 2003's help files is
impossible for all I've discovered. But going back to previous
versions, you can type LIMITS OF WORD and get your answer. So looking
back to Word XP (since you didn't mention which version you are
using!), you'll see the limits listed below for that version. If that
is not your version, hit F1 and type LIMIT to find your list.

You'll hit other limits long before you run out of pages. If nothing else,
you'll run out of patience waiting for the damned thing to repaginate.

To add to what the others have said, there may be no limit on the number of
pages in a document (except practical ones), but there is a limit to the
number of pages you can number, and this may well be 32,768 (or
32,000-some-odd, anyway). For higher page numbers, you have to use
calculated fields.
