Default Problem creating new document.

When I click on the Microsoft Word on my desktop, I automatically get a
"Document 1", but this document is a previous document I created. I can't
delete it!!! When I go in to create a new document and click on blank
document, the same thing happens. What did I do to create this problem and
how can I delete it?

Your help is GREATLY appreciated.
