Default How do I change the style of my index to be three columns?

I have a 116 page document, and the Index is towards the back, but not quite
at the end (I have a glossary and apendix after it). I want the index to be
three columns, rather than the standard two (the index entries are almost all
one word). I have been applying direct formatting to it, and that works, but
then the page numbers for every index entry after the index are incorrect!
I've looked in the Index style, and I cannot find anywhere that allows me to
even look at the number of columns, let alone change them.

I'm using Word 2007 ( I think; where did "Help, About" go?)

Press Alt+F9 to display the INDEX field. The default field will probably be:

{ INDEX \e "tab character" \c "2" \z "1033" }

Change the "2" after the \c switch to "3".

You will probably still have to modify the tab stops in the Index 1, Index
2, etc., styles. Alternatively, delete the INDEX field entirely and reinsert
it, choosing 3 as the number of columns from the outset.
