Default "Error opening the file"

I have Word 2003, and I am editing a file sent in Word 2007. (I downloaded
the 2007 upgrade to allow my older program to open the newer program.) I had
no problem with the first section I edited (22 pages), but after editing
(with "Track Changes") the first page of the second section, I clicked the
save button and got this error message: "There was an error opening the
file."
What does this mean?

Thanks for any help offered.
