Default Spell check problem

I have xp pro with office 2003 installed. I having problems with spell check
in word 2003. This has been a ongoing issue. this is the users 2nd computer
(both with office 2003) the only thing i copied over from the old computer
was the normal.dot file . Spell didn't work on the old computer and its not
working on the new computer. Does any one know if the normal.dot file has
anything to do with spell check? any help would be great. Thanks

Default Spell check problem

Select a word that you know is misspelled but isn't marked as such.

Tools Language Set Language

Is the box for "Do not check spelling and grammar" checked?

From the FAQ:
10. Spell-Check isn't working even though I have it turned on.
Your text may be marked (formatted) to not check spelling
or grammar. Try selecting the entire document (Ctrl-A) and
under Tools Language Set Language, uncheck the option
to not check spelling or grammar.

If this is happening in all documents created by this user try designating a
Startup Folder in Word.
Tools Options File Locations
This folder should not be in the user templates folder.

Then, with Word closed, move Normal.dot from the user templates folder to
the startup folder and rename it normalold.dot. This will keep any AutoText,
macros, toolbars stored in normal.dot available but give you a fresh
normal.dot next time Word is started. See
http://addbalance.com/word/movetotemplate.htm for step-by-step instructions
on moving / sharing / copying / backing-up customizations including
AutoText, AutoCorrect, keyboard assignments, toolbars, macros, etc.

Default Spell check problem

So the spell check function is connected to the normal.dot file? what if i
just delete the normal.dot file and let word create a new one?

Default Spell check problem

It may or may not have to do with normal.dot. Did you try the tests I
suggested?

Do not delete normal.dot. Rename it. Read the last part of my previous post.
