I have a word document in which I have inserted an excell worksheet and also
a microsoft graph. I am attempting to link it with data stored on an excel
worksheet. I copy the data in excel and the paste it with paste
special/link. The data updates itself fine until I close both documents and
then reopen. After that, I can only get it to update once I go into the
graph or worksheet and then exit back out. Would love any help you can offer.

I'm afraid this won't work as you hope. You're actually lucky the link is
retained at all after closing the document.

The only way you can get something like this is to have the chart in an external
Excel workbook, then link both the worksheet and the chart into your document.
Then, when the worksheet is updated, the chart will update as well. And both
should update in the document.
