Default Tracking Changes in word 2003 are not saving

I have someone that is working with a large word 2003 document. She accepts
the changes for a few comments, and then saves the document. If she then
closes this file, and then re-opens it without closing word completely the
changes she made are no longer there. Why is this happening, and is there a
solution?

note: The save as function does solve this problem, but the filename has to
keep changing.

I'm not terribly experienced (nor fond of :-)) the TrackChanges feature,
but just to understand the problem fully: by "the changes she made" are
you implying that, after reopening the file in the still running Word
session,
- the tracked changes she accepted or rejected before are again there to
accept/reject? Or
- that other normal changes (simple editing, with TrackChanges still
active or not) she has made are undone in the file?

Greetings
Robert

I've never had real trouble with Track Changes, but sometimes with a
very big file, the Tracking doesn't "take" -- both the inserted and
the deleted item appear on the screen but not (respectively)
Struckthrough and Underlined. Just doing a manual Save doesn't help,
but closing and reopening the file does.
