Combining documents within a master document
I have a document that appears to be a master of some type and it references
other documents when it prints. When I select the hyperlink for the documents, it doesn't seem to work. The hyperlinks are in the form: \\BLAH\BLAH1\BLAH2\BLAH3\BLAH4\BLAH5\DOC1.doc - #1 the file is in the following location: (Drive Designation):\BLAH3\BLAH4\BLAH5\DOC1.doc - #2 I get the impression that \\BLAH\BLAH1\BLAH2 somehow identifies the drive designation, but am unsure of this. Can someone shed some light as to why I can't open the document when I click the hyperlink for #1? In addition, can someone tell me how a document can be created that merges multiple documents into one. Thanks in advance, Barb Reinhardt |

That form of reference is for a file on a network -- the initial \\BLAH is
the name of a server location. If you're not part of that network, you don't have access to the file. "Barb Reinhardt" wrote in message ... In general MVPs say master documents in Word are not really a good idea,
although Steve Hudson aka "the Word Heretic " disagrees. http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/Wh...ocsCorrupt.htm "Jezebel" wrote: That form of reference is for a file on a network -- the initial \\BLAH is the name of a server location. Jezebel,
I can edit these documents, I just can't open them by clicking on the hyperlink in what I'm calling the master document. Do I need a different type of access to do this? Genine, This document is one that was previously created. I've heard about PROS and CONS of master documents. Is there some place I can read more about them? Thanks to both of you.
