Default hide comment code

Today I have not been able to remove the hidden code that follows a comment,
by this I mean for example, [pb1] that follows a comment. This is usually
hidden when I am looking at the document in Normal mode.

However today I cannot seem to get rid of [pb1] even in Normal mode and I
don't understand why.

I solved my own problem this morning by going to Tools and Options. I
discovered the the "Hidden" text was checked and so the [pb1] which should
have been hidden was appearing on my screen.

I don't know how that suddenly got checked in the first place?

Perhaps you have printed comments at some point? That would enable the
option to print hidden text as well.
